PRINCETON, N.J., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- InfoMed, Inc., a leading provider of home healthcare and practice management information systems, and EDI Able, Inc., announced today the signing of an agreement allowing InfoMed to license EDI Able's Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) translation software.
InfoMed Holdings, Inc., a private company (IHI), and Script Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCPT) have previously announced an exchange offer which is set to expire at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 26, 1993. Josephthal, Lyon & Ross Incorporated is acting as dealer-manager of the exchange offer.
InfoMed is a leading provider of management information systems for the home healthcare industry. Script is a leading supplier of management information systems for healthcare providers in group practices, clinics and hospital-based groups.
This translator, called FrEDI, supports electronic formats necessary to comply with newly developed federal government standards for healthcare related transactions, i.e., ANSI standard 835 (Electronic Remittance Advice) and 837 ( Electronic Media Claims). FrEDI also supports other ANSI standard transactions, such as invoices and purchase orders, and accommodates the electronic exchange of data between "transaction partners" in non-standard (proprietary) formats. Medicare has made a commitment to use ANSI standards for claims and payments. Congress is currently considering legislation to require all payers to use ANSI standards and EDI technology.
Under the agreement, InfoMed will remarket the translator and use it to develop future EDI products. The translator provides InfoMed with the necessary tool to help customers comply with present and future electronic processing requirements and take advantage of EDI technology benefits. FrEDI, which stands for "Friendly EDI," receives and translates the format of electronic transactions.
"Licensing EDI Able's translator will assist us to maintain our customers' systems in compliance with government regulations in a timely manner," said Frederick Neufeld, chief executive officer of InfoMed. "This software will allow our customers to take advantage of the benefits of EDI technology as it is adopted by healthcare providers over the next several years."
"Fore EDI Able, the alliance with InfoMed strengthens our leadership role in EDI and healthcare," stated Lawrence Spoerl, manager of sales and marketing at EDI Able. "InfoMed is EDI Able's preferred vendor in the home healthcare and practice management software marketplace."
