INFINITI ANNOUNCES NEW 1994 Q45 LUXURY PERFORMANCE SEDAN

GROSSE POINTE SHORES, Mich., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- At a news conference today, William R. Bruce, vice president and general manager of Infiniti, announced that Nissan's luxury car division would begin selling the new 1994 Q45 luxury performance sedan the first week of April at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $47,500.
According to Bruce, the new Q45 received more than 70 enhancements, including dual airbags (driver's and passenger's side), seat belt pretensioners, and an upgraded audio system. Additionally, it received numerous interior and exterior luxury enhancements, many of which were in direct response to customer input.
"At $47,500, the Q45 has about a $2,500 price advantage over a comparably equipped Lexus LS400, and an $8,000 to $11,000 advantage over the BMW 740i and Mercedes-Benz 400E, respectively," said Bruce.
Sales of the new Q45, added Bruce, are expected to increase about 33 percent in calendar-year 1993 to about 16,000 units, up from 12,189 units posted the previous year. Sales for all three Infiniti sedans, Q45, J30 and G20, are expected to increase to more than 50,000 units, up from sales of 44,260 in 1992.
Infiniti, which recently moved its advertising to Chiat/Day, Inc., will launch a new marketing campaign later in April that will position Infiniti products as the most intelligent luxury cars consumers can buy.
"American consumers today want to know that they are getting quality at a fair price," said Bruce. "They want the 'added value' of things like a hassle-free buying experience and a reasonable cost of ownership. Our point of difference will be that Infiniti offers comfort, control and care not found in other luxury cars."
Other MSRPs announced included $54,100 for the 1994 Q45a and $50,600 for the Q45t. The flagship Q45a model, which features Infiniti's leading-edge Full-Active Suspension system, now comes standard with traction control and an integrated trunk-mounted CD autochanger. Other standard equipment includes all-season tires, heated front seats, and performance alloy wheels. Featuring Infiniti's four-wheel steering, the more sporting Q45t includes heated front seats, deck-lid spoiler, performance alloy wheels and tires, and performance steering ratio.
The MSRPs for the recently introduced 1993.5 G20 luxury sports sedan, which goes on sale in early April, also were announced. Base price for the G20 (5-speed manual) is $20,450. The G20 (4-speed automatic) is priced at $21,400. Both G20 models offer such standard equipment as an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), driver's and passenger's side airbags, front seat belt pretensioners, air conditioning, power windows and door locks, and a premium 6-speaker audio system with 160 watts of power.
The new Q45 will make its world auto show debut at the New York Auto Show April 10-18.
