Algerian transport ministers are planning to suspend Khalifa Airways' certificate of airworthiness. The airline - facing huge debts - was forced to ground its aircraft last week due to insurance problems. About 200 of the carrier's 3,483 employees staged a sit-in at the Algiers airport on 9 April to protest against their uncertain future.

Delta Air Lines has introduced a new fare sale allowing customers to travel between most cities in the US and many popular leisure destinations in Florida. The sale fares - available for travel on Delta, Delta Express and Delta Connection flights - must be purchased by 16 April 2003 for travel through to October 2003. Fares require a round trip seven-day advance purchase and a Saturday night stay.

A new international airport is to be built in Bahrain. According to the Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the new airport would meet the requirements of modern developments in the technological and telecommunication areas and fulfil the growth ambitions of the tourism sector.

Malaysia Airlines System (MAS) has suspended its flights from Penang to Medan due to the decline in passenger numbers caused by the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The route, which on average serves about 100 people per day, was only being used by 20 passengers per day despite a reduction in ticket prices to USD65.

British Airways is to resume its nonstop service between London and Bahrain. From 13 April 2003, the airline's flights on the route will be reintroduced and will also continue to Muscat. The measures are part of the carrier's plans to resume its full flight schedule to the Gulf region. The airline will also resume its direct services between London and Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
