AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The last aircraft in the traditional TWA livery was taken to the American Airlines Kansas City Maintenance Base yesterday (10 June) to be stripped, polished, and painted with the American Airlines Silver Bird livery. In just nine months 130 aircraft have undergone this transformation.

Low-cost British airline bmibaby is expected to create than more 100 jobs, following the announcement that it will establish a second base. The new jobs, needed to cope with the airline's rapid growth, will cover the employment of cabin crew members over the next few months.

Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways has selected ARINC Inc to provide it with air/ground voice and data communications services. The four-year agreement will enable the airline to use ARINC's GLOBALink data link services on its routes to 60 international destinations. The deal also includes the fleets of Hong Kong Dragon Airlines and Air Hong Kong, which operate 21 and three aircraft respectively.

Charter Services (CSI) is planning to work together with Falcon Air Express, Spirit Airlines and other carriers to provide transportation for firefighters dispatched to wildland fires in the US. The company will reportedly be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the busy summer fire season.

During December 2002, Continental Airlines will launch a daily, nonstop service between Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Villahermosa, Mexico. The new service - which is currently pending government approval - will be operated using 50-seat ERJ-145 ExpressJet aircraft. Spanish-speaking flight attendants will be available on the flights and bilingual customer service representatives will be available to assist passengers at ticket counters and departure/arrival gates.
