INDIANAPOLIS FORD SALES UP IN FIRST HALF OF 1993

INDIANAPOLIS, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Led by sales of the Ford Thunderbird and all-new Ford Ranger pickup, sales of Ford Division cars and trucks surged in Indianapolis during the first half of 1993. Truck sales were up 13 percent in the metro area for the first six months of the year, while car sales climbed 3 percent.
The sales increase was led by the Thunderbird, with a 234-percent increase over the first half of 1992, and the all-new Ranger, with a 27-percent sales increase.
During the first half of the year, 3,182 Ford trucks were sold in the Indianapolis area, along with 2,282 Ford cars. In June, 765 Ford trucks were sold, and 433 Ford cars. Total Ford vehicle sales for June in Indianapolis were up 13 percent.
Nationally, Ford has grabbed the best-selling car and truck title for the first six months of 1993. The Ford Taurus is the nation's top car, and the Ford F-Series remains the first choice of American buyers for trucks -- or any vehicle -- car or truck.
"Ford's total vehicle volume in June was above the prior year for the 19th consecutive month," said Joseph King, sales manager of Ford Division's Cincinnati Region, which covers Indianapolis. "Reflecting on the first half of 1993, the automotive market definitely seems to have positive momentum," King added. "More importantly, Ford's sales growth has outstripped the market as a whole, boosting our total share to its highest level since 1978."
