Nonwovens In The Sun

The nonwovens industry returns to a resort location this month for INDA-TEC '91, the International Nonwovens Technical Conference, April 9-12, in Orlando, FL. The four days of the conference will be highlighted by a special keynote session on the current business climate and by the presence of a distinguished nonwovens researcher from the U.S.S.R. The annual gathering, sponsored by INDA, Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, is expected to attract more than 300 industry professionals from all aspects of nonwovens production.

William MacReynolds, director of forecasting at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, will attempt to project the immediate future of the industry in his Tuesday afternoon keynote session to kick off INDA-TEC '91. His paper will concentrate on giving nonwovens executives some insight into the economic climate through 1992.

One of the highlights of the meeting will be presentations by Victor Vasiljevich Dmitriev, of the Leningrad Institute of Textile and Light Industry. His paper on Wednesday morning is entitled "Theory and Practice of Applying Chemical Treatment To Fibers To Improve Nonwoven Properties." Dr. Dmitriev will also participate in a discussion focusing on nonwovens research in the Soviet Union on Thursday morning.

Another key session at INDA-TEC '91 will be an afternoon of poster sessions sponsored by the INDA Council of Universities. Posters of on-going nonwovens research projects will be presented by students at a number of North American universities. Posters will address such nonwovens topics as test methodologies, process technology, raw materials and applications.

INDA-TEC '91 will also once again feature exhibits from participating nonwovens companies, including Nonwovens Industry. These exhibits will be held in conjunction with the evening receptions Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

One other special event during the week is a Nonwoven Basics Course on Fibers, moderated by John Riedel, 3M. The Thursday afternoon course will provide basic information on fibers used for nonwovens and will serve as an primer for those new to the industry and as a refresher course for those with more experience in nonwovens.
