INC Research and Phase Forward Form Partnership for Clinical Data Collection Utilizing Innovative Internet Technologies.

SAN DIEGO--(BW HealthWire)--April 15, 1999--

INC Research and Phase Forward announced today the execution of a joint marketing agreement that will advance INC's comprehensive range of clinical drug development services and enhance Phase Forward's national marketing strategy.

INC Research manages all aspects of clinical drug development programs for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies developing drug therapies and devices used for neurological, psychiatric and pain management disorders. INC Research is the only organization integrating an exclusive national network of experienced physician investigators with full-service clinical trial management.

Phase Forward has developed a complete solution for clinical data management that harnesses the full power of Internet technologies. Phase Forward's InForm is the only Web-based solution available that ties all members of a clinical research team within a single environment for data collection, monitoring, cleaning, problem communication and resolution in a fully validated, Rule 11 compliant system.

Under the agreement, INC Research will integrate Phase Forward's InForm product into its existing electronic system for linking the company's exclusive network of investigator sites. While evaluating study patients, the research staff at these sites will collect electronic case report form (CRF) data. Phase Forward's InForm system will serve as the information pipeline for transmitting CRF data directly into INC's validated Oracle Clinical(TM) data management system. With Phase Forward technology, INC Research will have a unique, secured system for complete electronic data capture and management.

INC Research can also apply Phase Forward's innovative technology to other research projects the company manages outside its exclusive physician network. The company's therapeutic expertise in central nervous system and pain management will enhance Phase Forward's ability to offer clinical data management solutions specific to central nervous system (CNS) research.

Kenneth A. Selzer, MD, chief executive officer of INC Research said, For research sponsors, this new system means they can now immediately access the most current clinical trial data through secured, controlled Internet channels. Internet technology is the future for data collection and we are excited to be able to work with Phase Forward. Our collaboration with Phase Forward creates a linked network that will enhance compliance to study protocols as it expedites submission of study data from multiple sites. Once the initial introduction is complete at an investigational site, minimal training will be required to apply the new system to multiple clinical trials.

We are delighted to be working with INC Research to provide state-of-the-art electronic data capture for their clinical trials. Their unique approach which combines site management and data collection activities is extremely well-suited for Web-based data collection, said Paul Bleicher, MD, PhD, chairman and chief scientific officer of Phase Forward.

About INC Research

INC Research was recently formed by the integration of two leading research organizations - Integrated Neuroscience Consortium (INC) and Neuroclinical Trials Center (NTC). NTC, a full-service contract research organization, previously affiliated with the University of Virginia, is internationally known for its CNS clinical trial programs. Corporate headquarters for INC Research are in San Diego, with operations in Charlottesville, Va.
