INAUGURAL PARADE MARCHERS WILL NOT GO HUNGRY! A BEHIND-THE-SCENES, BREAKING STORY ON THE CARE AND FEEDING OF THE INAUGURAL CELEBRATION

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sunday afternoon, Jan. 17, Rae Parr-Moore, a volunteer with the Presidential Inaugural Committee, called Marriott Corporation's headquarters and reached the security desk.
"I need to speak to the highest-ranking Marriott executive available. We need 10,000-plus sandwiches to feed the Inaugural Parade participants," she explained.
The security officer had seen Roger Conner, Marriott Hotels' vice president of communications, come into the building earlier, and immediately walked the message to his office. Conner contacted Parr- Moore for additional details, and then called several Marriott officials at their homes. Within a few hours, Conner phoned Inaugural Headquarters with the good news -- "You've got 10,000 sandwiches, on us!"
The sandwiches were prepared this afternoon in assembly line fashion at five D.C.-area Marriott hotels and the Marriott Conference Center at Georgetown University. They will be trucked to two designated sites by 6:30 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 20).
"They were in a real 11th-hour bind, and fortunately we were able to act quickly and take care of the need. We were glad to make the contribution and help with the celebration," said Conner.
