TROY, Mich., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- InaCom (NASDAQ-NMS: INAC), one of the nation's leading providers of information technology to the business world, unveiled its new corporate identity today. The company has consolidated all its operations and business centers under the name Inacom and has also renamed two major business units: Inacom Information Systems for computer products and services and Inacom Communications for communications products and services. The change reflects the company's greater emphasis on helping businesses link information technologies through computers and other office systems.
Inacom, an Omaha, Neb.-based company, with executive offices in Omaha and Troy, revealed its new identity through a unique 6 1/2-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal. The advertisement highlights Inacom's leadership in marketing computers and communications systems and services, as well as the financial strength of the company, which last year surpassed $1 billion in sales.
Inacom President and Chief Executive Officer Bill L. Fairfield said The Wall Street Journal ad sends a clear signal to the business and financial worlds that Inacom is the trusted source for providing computer and communication systems to meet specific company needs. The ad notes Inacom's financial stability and long-term focus by stating ... "Inacom. Here today. Here tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow ..."
Fairfield added, "Purchasing an integrated computer system is a major investment for a business. Our customers want to work with a partner who can provide not just the products, but the expertise and support services to market technology efficiently and effectively throughout the life of the system. That is what Inacom does best. We are a dependable resource, with an emphasis on support services now and into the future."
Fairfield noted that the growth of the company since 1982 has been tremendous. For example:
-- Inacom's national employment is 1,940, compared to less than
 50 in 1983.
-- 1992 sales revenue was approximately $1 billion, while just
six years ago sales totaled $164 million.
-- Inacom now has 265 company-owned and franchised locations, and
markets computer systems and communication products and services
to over 1,100 independent resellers around the country.
-- Inacom is the world's leading provider of IBM microcomputers,
and a major distributor for Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Novell, and
other leading hardware and software vendors.
-- A subsidiary of Inacom, Inacom Communications is the nation's
largest independent dealer of AT&T telephone systems.
-- Inacom's business extends internationally through an exclusive
agreement with ICG, the largest systems integration consortium
 in Europe and Asia.
"Companies are no longer looking to computers simply to automate office tasks," said Inacom Chairman Rick Inatome. "A major trend toward information technology convergence is increasing the role of the computer as the central conduit in connecting other technologies. Inacom is uniquely equipped to provide businesses with this type of support."
Inacom started in 1982 as part of Valmont Industries, Inc. and was originally known as Valcom. Valcom first sold IBM personal computers to farmers, but quickly moved into serving businesses. In 1987, ValCom became a publicly traded company. In 1991, ValCom merged with Inacomp Computer Centers and in 1993 acquired the Sears Business Centers and held a public offering where in part, Valmont Industries sold the balance of its Inacom shares. All Inacom businesses now operate under the Inacom name.
