Georgia Power Co. line crews have arrived in South Florida, and this afternoon will begin assisting Florida Power & Light in its efforts to restore electric service following Hurricane Andrew.
The Georgia Power group includes 109 employees, as well as numerous vehicles and other equipment. Those employees are primarily from Waycross, Brunswick, Statesboro, Vidalia, Valdosta and Tifton.
At this time, Florida Power & Light has requested no additional assistance. However, Georgia Power's Storm Center will remain activated and in contact with FP&L officials, and will offer further assistance if needed.
Restoration support to utilities affected by Andrew's Gulf Coast landfall will be coordinated primarily through Southern Company subsidiaries Alabama Power, Mississippi Power and Gulf Power.
