IN HOME HEALTH REPORTS THIRD-QUARTER RESULTS

MINNETONKA, Minn., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- In Home Health, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: IHHI) reported third-quarter net income of $286,000 for the period ended June 30, 1993, down from $610,000 in the same quarter a year ago, according to Judy M. Figge, president and chief executive officer. Earnings per share were $.02 as compared with $.04 per share in the third quarter of fiscal 1992.
Revenue totaled $27.5 million in the quarter, up from the $20.0 million revenue reported in the third quarter of fiscal 1992. Income from operations totaled $621,000, down from $1.1 million a year ago.
Ms. Figge noted that the specific reasons for the lower third- quarter results include a lower contribution to profit from infusion products and services, higher general, administrative and selling expenses and an increase in interest expense. "We continue to believe that infusion therapy is an important part of home health care and that profit margins will improve as our market share grows. In part, this will occur as the newer pharmacies mature and new services such as hospice and women's home care stimulate infusion and high-tech nursing revenue."
"The increase in general, administrative and selling expenses this quarter also reflects additional overhead costs associated with our six acquisitions made in conjunction with the new markets we have entered since June 1992," she continued, "and higher operating costs resulted from implementing our new Management Information System. The higher interest expense is the result of increased borrowing under equipment leases and lower interest earnings on cash-equivalent investments."
Ms. Figge noted that the company has taken steps to both increase revenue and improve profit. "In Home Health has begun a program under which its senior executives have undertaken additional involvement at the branch-operation level to ensure that local management is focused on increasing their market share."
For the first nine months of fiscal 1993, In Home Health had net income of $1.3 million, a decline from $1.6 million in the comparable period of 1992, and earnings per share were $0.08 as compared with $0.10 the prior year. Revenue was $76.5 million, up over the $53.4 million reported in the comparable period of fiscal 1992. Operating income declined to $2.6 million from $2.8 million a year ago.
