IN HOME HEALTH ANNOUNCES SECOND-QUARTER RESULTS

MINNETONKA, Minn., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- In Home Health, Inc. (NASDAQ: IHHI) reported record revenue of $25.6 million for the quarter ended March 31, 1993, greater than the $18.1 million of the second quarter of fiscal 1992 revenue. This marks the first quarter the company achieved an annualized revenue rate of $100 million, according to Judy M. Figge, president and chief executive officer.
Net income was $491,000 for the period as compared with $549,000 in the same quarter a year ago. Earnings per share were $.03, the same as the second quarter of fiscal 1992. Income from operations totaled $944,000 compared with $959,000 a year ago.
"While our revenues achieved record levels, our infusion business experienced a slight decline from the first quarter, but we have already seen an improvement for April," Figge said. "General, administrative and selling expenses increased, primarily as a result of additional overhead associated with the acquisitions in new markets and start-up expenses associated with a new Management Information System."
"This MIS system is tailored to all components of home health and provides a foundation for further branch expansion and future productivity improvements. Implementation of the new system is on schedule and three branches will be operating on the new system for the month of May," Figge added. "All other branches will be phased in during the remainder of this year. This state-of-the-art system will be unique in our history. Implementation of the new system has resulted in additional staff being required for the transition."
"We believe we are well positioned, with our comprehensive approach to serving all the clients' home care needs, to play an integral role in the changing health care environment," Figge said. "We are encouraged by the fact that we did achieve our targeted revenue levels during the second quarter and that our branches acquired late last year in Houston, Pittsburgh and Seattle are making positive contributions to our revenue base."
Revenue growth in new markets typically starts with growth in visit division revenue. Visit revenue is not as profitable as either infusion or extended hours, which usually grow later and more slowly.
