IN BRIEF: Speedway.

REDCAR Bears skipper Gary Havelock is auctioning off one of his race suits to raise cash for a stricken former team-mate.

The 1992 world champion and one time England captain is selling the kevlars he wore during his season with Elite League club Arena Essex.

He's had them framed and says he'll personally autograph it to whoever comes up with the winning bid.

The money will go to the Garry Stead Fund, set up after the popular rider was left confined to a wheelchair after a track crash last year. Havvy and Stead were team-mates at Bradford.

He said: "I rode in his benefit meeting at Sheffield but I wanted to do something else to help him. It's a unique item and I'm expecting it to raise a large sum."

The suit has been put on ebay (item number is 320323483100) and bidding will finish on Wednesday, December 17.

Havelock has captained the Bears since their launch in 2006 and is currently in talks about a deal for 2009.
