IMS AMERICA FIRST TO MARKET WITH PRESCRIBER-LEVEL MANAGED HEALTH CARE INFORMATION SERVICE

TOTOWA, N.J., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- IMS America, a company of The Dun and Bradstreet Corporation (NYSE: DNB) providing sales and marketing decision support to pharmaceutical manufacturers, announced delivery of Xponent PlanTrak, the industry's first comprehensive prescriber-level managed care information service.
In January, 12 pharmaceutical manufacturers are receiving the initial national delivery of Xponent PlanTrak. This includes companies that traditionally bought prescription information services from IMS' competition.
By the end of the first quarter '94, IMS America anticipates that more than half of the major U.S. pharmaceutical companies will be receiving Xponent PlanTrak.
Xponent PlanTrak encompasses the vast majority of prescribers in the
U.S. and virtually every significant managed care plan. It provides comprehensive information on physicians' plan participation and payors.
Mr. Tommy Bohman, IMS America President, said, "Xponent PlanTrak is a breakthrough service designed to provide pharmaceutical manufacturers an essential sales and marketing resource concerning managed health care. It is the only service being delivered that identifies each prescriber's plan participation based on actual prescription activity and each plan's contribution to a specific prescriber's total prescription writing. Xponent PlanTrak makes it possible for pharmaceutical manufacturers to see the specific effects of managed care plans on actual prescriptions dispensed."
Bohman said, "The scope of Xponent PlanTrak is national, covering all
prescription products and doctors. And we are delivering it to clients right now."
Bohman said, "IMS developed the first true prescriber-level service for determining prescription volume, and is also the first to market with
prescriber-level managed health care data. The importance of this is underscored by new clients for Xponent PlanTrak who traditionally buy from our competition."
Xponent PlanTrak is based on IMS America's Xponent, the first true prescriber database, which was launched in January 1993. Xponent features a proprietary, patent-pending projection methodology with the industry's largest prescription database to estimate individual prescriber activity. This method provides much greater accuracy than services which mass-project a block of geography containing several hundred prescribers.
IMS America offers additional information services concerning managed health care. These include:
-- PlanTrak, which provides volume and market share information on prescriptions in HMOs and PPOs, as well as in pharmacy benefit and government assistance programs.
-- Method-of-Payment Report, which provides detailed, projected information on cash, third-party and Medicaid transactions.
-- Retail Medicaid Report, which offers state-by-state projected information on Medicaid-reimbursed dispensing.
-- Long-Term Care Audit, which includes total and Medicaid-specific information on non-retail prescriptions originating with nursing home providers.
-- HMO Profile Report, which delivers in-depth demographic and operational information on managed care organizations.
-- HMO Physician Affiliation Report, which provides current information on individual doctor affiliations with HMOs.
Bohman said, "The marketplace needs accurate information concerning drugs and prescribing practices under managed health care plans. Our goal in developing the most advanced technology in the field was to create clearly superior services. We are very pleased with the response of pharmaceutical manufacturers to our various managed health care services and our newly launched Xponent PlanTrak."
The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation is the world's leading marketer of information, software and services for business decision-making, with worldwide revenue of $4.8 billion in 1992.
