FOR ANNUAL WASHINGTON AUTOMOTIVE CONGRESS MAY 17-19
 Tsongas, Cheney, Kemp, Simpson, Gibbons,
Mazda/USA Chief Vitulli Among Noted Speakers
Fearing for the future of their industry, nearly 1,000 of the nation's leading import car dealers will arrive in Washington for the 15th annual American International Automobile Dealers Association "Automotive Congress," to be held at the JW Marriott Hotel, 1331 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W., Washington, May 17-19.
Congressional action on international trade and tax legislation will be the focus of the event. During the event, dealers will converge en masse on Capitol Hill in opposition to auto quota legislation, a 25 percent duty on imported minivans/sport-utility vehicles and for a complete repeal of the luxury excise tax.
Addresses on these and other topics will be given by 1992 presidential candidate Paul Tsongas, Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.), Rep. Sam Gibbons (D-Fla.), Mazda/USA Chief Operating Officer Clark Vitulli, Automotive News Publisher Keith Crain and economist Lawrence Kudlow. The session will also include a panel discussion on the politics and future of trade and economic issues, featuring Fred Barnes of The New Republic and Newsweek's Eleanor Clift.
The Automotive Congress opens Sunday, May 17, followed by the general sessions on Monday and Tuesday. Monday speakers include Tsongas, Vitulli and Crain. The Sports Illustrated "All Star Dealer" Awards dinner will also be held on Monday, with HUD Secretary and former pro football quarterback Jack Kemp as the featured speaker.
Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney will be the keynote speaker at the luncheon on Tuesday, and political humorist Mark Russell will be the premier entertainer at the annual Congressional Dinner that night.
