IMO'S DELAVAL TURBINE DIVISION WINS $45 MILLION IN CONTRACTS FOR INTERNATIONAL OIL AND GAS PROJECTS

IMO'S DELAVAL TURBINE DIVISION WINS $45 MILLION
IN CONTRACTS FOR INTERNATIONAL OIL AND GAS PROJECTS
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Imo Industries Inc. (NYSE: IMD) said its Delaval Turbine Division recently received turbomachinery contracts valued at more than $45 million for six separate international oil and gas processing projects.
The largest of the orders is a contract worth in excess of $20 million to supply 12 large centrifugal compressors to be used at a Mobil Oil-Indonesia natural gas gathering project in Sumatra. The order is for six trains of compression equipment, each consisting of two vertically split centrifugal compressors. Delaval Turbine will also supply seal-oil systems and controls for each train.
The compressors will be used to maintain pipeline pressure at constant levels as natural gas is transported from the Arun gas field in northern Sumatra to a nearby LNG plant, where it will be liquefied for shipment aboard tankers.
The Delaval Turbine Division has also received a $10 million contract to supply two turbines and four centrifugal compressors for use at the Wei He Ammonia Plant, now under construction in China's Shaanxi province. The equipment will be used in the conversion of coal-based synthetic gas into ammonia fertilizer. Ube Industries, Ltd., of Japan, is general contractor for the project.
The contract represents the first order received under a co-production agreement signed last year between Delaval Turbine and China's Nanjing Chemical Industry Group. The Nanjing Group operates chemical and petro-chemical plants in Nanjing province and builds such plants for other provinces throughout China.
Under terms of the agreement, Delaval and Nanjing will jointly secure contracts and co-produce turbomachinery for installation in China and, eventually, outside China as well. Delaval is providing steam turbine and centrifugal compressor technology for those portions of the machinery to be co-produced by Nanjing, including engineering drawings and technical know-how. The company will also provide technical training for Nanjing employees.
Delaval also received two other orders in China worth $5 million. One is for the Jinan Refinery and the other for the Dongting Chemical Fertilizer plant.
Contracts valued at nearly $10 million to supply turbomachinery for two separate oil and gas projects in South America have also been received.
Largest is a $6 million contract to revamp the catalytic converter portion of the Refineria de Petroleo oil refinery in Concon, Chile, which includes the installation of two new large centrifugal compressors. In addition, the company received a $4 million order for two large compressors for use at the Mauay oil refinery operated by Lagoven, S.A. in Judibana, Venezuela, in the state of Falcon.
Imo, with 1991 sales of $1 billion, supplies analytical and optical instruments, electronic and mechanical controls, engineered power products and their support services to industrial and defense customers worldwide.
