IMM RECEIVES $3.5 MILLION ORDER FROM
 UNIVERSAL SERVICE TELEPHONE CORPORATION
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- International Mobile Machines Corporation (NASDAQ: IMMC) announced today that it has received a $3.5 million multi-year contract from its wholly owned subsidiary Universal Service Telephone Corporation (USTC) for Ultraphone digital radiotelephone systems to be used to upgrade the local exchanges of the Haviland Telephone Company in Haviland, Kan.
USTC began its program of acquiring rural telephone companies in 1991 with the 50 percent acquisition of the Rico Telephone Company, a single rural exchange in Rico, Colo. In late 1991, USTC acquired the Haviland Telephone Company, which comprises 12 local exchanges located between Wichita and Dodge City serving approximately 3,700 people.
"Using the Ultraphone systems, USTC will begin a modernization program which will involve upgrading obsolete plant and equipment in rural locations. The efficiency and cost effectiveness of the Ultraphone system will enable us to consolidate exchanges and eliminate older outside plant facilities which will result in a more modern, high- tech, local exchange," said E.L. "Buddy" Langley, chairman and chief executive officer of USTC.
 G. James Bracknell Jr., executive vice president and general manager of IMM's Wireless Digital Access Corporation, said, "Sales of Ultraphone to USTC are an integral part of IMM's vertical integration strategy. With our spectrum-efficient TDMA technology, rural phone companies can replace aging wireline equipment with wireless thereby permitting the telco to offer revenue-enhancing upgrades and ancillary services to subscribers as well as mobile digital radiotelephone service using the Ultraphone system."
Installation of the systems are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 1992.
