IMM OFFERS STATE GOVERNMENTS OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE
 EMERGENCY WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- International Mobile Machines Corporation (AMEX: IMM) announced today that due to the successful use of the Ultraphone(R) wireless digital radiotelephone in hurricane-ravaged Florida, IMM has designed a program for each state government to acquire their own internal emergency wireless communications system.
The Ultraphone 200 Transportable wireless telephone systems are being offered under two specially designed programs in response to the growing need to have dedicated emergency communications restoration systems on hand to respond to emergencies immediately. Once deployed, the system is operational within four hours.
"The recent hurricane that hit Florida knocked out many communications services," said Dave Smith, senior vice president of IMM. "Ultraphone systems were requested for immediate deployment to the state of Florida. IMM, happy to help in these situations, was pleased that two systems could be made available on such short notice. Ideally, each state should have their own Ultraphone system to be self-sufficient and provide a rapid response to emergencies until external assistance can be provided."
IMM's Ultraphone 200 Transportable system, which utilizes Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technology, can be quickly sent to a needed site and installed to provide radio links for standard telephones, facsimile, or computer data transmission. The system provides more than 4,000 square miles of coverage, compared to the less than 50 miles achieved with a single analog cell. In addition, the Ultraphone is completely private and secure in its transmission of toll- quality calls.
Many other countries have acquired Ultraphone Transportable telephone systems for temporary or emergency uses. The system has been successfully used to restore communications after Hurricane Hugo in Puerto Rico, support emergency communications after the Mt. Pinatubo volcano eruption in the Philippines, provide emergency restoration to Kuwait City immediately after the Gulf War, restore telephone lines in Panama during Operation Just Cause and in the United States during the forest fires in Wyoming and after the Avianca Airlines plane crash in New York.
IMM is a pioneer in TDMA digital radiotelephone systems. Its Ultraphone system is currently installed and operating in more than 157 permanent locations worldwide.
