IMEX INTRODUCES LOW-COST 'PIPE CHECK KIT' TO TEST FOR PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL DISEASE (PAD)

GOLDEN, Colo., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Imex Medical Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: IMEX) has introduced a new, low-cost test kit to screen for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), a blood circulation problem brought on by blockages in the arteries which causes a five-fold risk increase of death due to heart disease for those over the age of 60.
"In response to a recent New England Journal of Medicine study showing that PAD is more dangerous than cholesterol, we've developed a simple screening kit that allows physician to more easily identify PAD in its early stages than ever before," said Imex President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis Newman. "Family practice physicians, internists, cardiologists and other specialists will now be able to use this quick and easy kit in support of the national Get Your Pipes Checked' campaign, which encourages patients to request a PAD screening during each visit to the doctor's office."
With the new "Pipe Check Kit," anyone can perform this simple and painless test. Included in the kit are the Pocket-Dop II (a highly sensitive Doppler with an 8 MHz vascular probe), special vascular cuffs (for Ankle/Brachial Index exam), sphygmomanometer, rechargeable batteries, charger, carrying case, training video, audio cassette and test procedure posters.
Also included in the kit is a supply of informative brochures which help doctors educate their patients about the dangers of PAD, and how PAD screening is as easy as having your blood pressure checked.
"This test kit can save lives and reduce healthcare costs by discovering and managing PAD earlier," said Newman. "Nationwide PAD screening would complement President Clinton's healthcare reform plans by reducing Medicare costs for hospitalizations and surgeries."
The "Pipe Check Kit" is available immediately. For more information call Imex at 800-525-2519.
