IMCO RECYCLING RECEIVES STATE OF KENTUCKY ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

IRVING, Texas, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- IMCO Recycling Inc. (NYSE:IMR) today announced that it has been named the 1993 recipient of the Kentucky Governor's Environmental Excellence award for Industrial Environmental Leadership.
In making the award, the state said that the company's Morgantown, Ky. plant "is an environmental success story for the industry. IMCO Recycling has proven that aluminum smelting can be achieved using a combination of high efficiency pollutant control systems, aggressive preventive maintenance, and a company dedicated to environmental protection. IMCO proves that business success and protecting the environment can go hand in hand and sets the standard for the industry in dealing with solid waste issues in aluminum recycling."
Richard L. Kerr, IMCO Recycling's executive vice president and chief operating officer, said that employees of the company's Morgantown plant "should take great pride in this award from the state for their sound environmental performance. Modern environmental control technology designed by IMCO is used throughout this plant's production operations and allows Morgantown to fully comply with state and federal regulations," he said.
"When we built the Morgantown plant in 1989, we included a landfill built to hazardous waste standards. This facility is used to store saltcake, a nonhazardous by-product of aluminum recycling. It protects our customers from third-party mixed landfill clean-up problems and it eliminates the possibility of saltcake leaching into groundwater supplies."
IMCO Recycling received the award at an October 14 awards banquet hosted by Secretary Phillip J. Shepherd and Deputy Secretary C. Gregory Higdon of the Kentucky Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet. Executives of IMCO Recycling who were present to accept the award included Richard L. Kerr; C. Lee Newton, senior vice president, operations; and Gary R. Pannell, manager of the company's Morgantown plant. The banquet was held in conjunction with the Eighteenth Annual Governor's Conference on the Environment.
IMCO Recycling Inc. is the world's largest aluminum recycler and also recycles zinc and magnesium. In addition to its Morgantown plant, IMCO has production facilities in Rockwood, Tenn., Sapulpa, Okla., Uhrichsville, Ohio; and Adrian, Mich. IMCO Recycling's headquarters office is in Irving, Texas.
