IMCERA'S PITMAN-MOORE ANIMAL HEALTH UNIT ACQUIRES
HORSE HEALTH PRODUCTS OF SOUTH CAROLINA
NORTHBROOK, Ill., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- IMCERA Group Inc. (NYSE: IMA) announced today that its Pitman-Moore animal health and nutrition unit of Lake Forest, Ill., has acquired Horse Health Products, Inc., a 15-year-old, privately owned business in Aiken, S.C. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Horse Health Products manufactures and markets a wide variety of well-recognized, specialty equine and companion animal care products through distributors across the United States.
"The Horse Health business offers Pitman-Moore a unique opportunity to focus on segmented niches within the animal health care market and increases our ability to concentrate on equine and companion animal customer needs within this marketing channel," said Boyd D. Wainscott, president and chief executive officer of Pitman-Moore.
According to Horse Health Products President Bruce Snipes, "Horse Health Products will now be able to access global equine and companion animal technology that was not available prior to this agreement. It means that Horse Health Products customers will be the beneficiaries not only of our existing high quality products and services, but an infusion of new products as they become available."
Horse Health Products will be operated as a separate entity from Pitman-Moore's main animal health business and will maintain a separate commercial function to assure a strong Horse Health, Inc. identity and brand franchise.
Pitman-Moore is a major participant in worldwide equine markets. It offers a broad line of equine biologicals and anthelmintics, including Equi-Flu(TM) and Strepvax(R) II vaccines and Telmin(R) dewormer.
With net sales and operating earnings of $623 million and $74 million, respectively, in fiscal 1991, Pitman-Moore is the overall market leader in North America and one of the largest animal health and nutrition companies in the world. It markets an extensive line of pharmaceuticals, biologicals, growth promotants, diagnostics, surgicals and nutritional feed ingredients for livestock, poultry and companion animals.
IMCERA, a Fortune 300 company with net sales of more than $1.6 billion in fiscal 1991, has two other international, technology-based businesses--Mallinckrodt Medical and Mallinckrodt Specialty Chemicals, both of St. Louis.
