IMC-AGRICO COMPANY TO RESUME OPERATIONS AT TAFT, LOUISIANA PHOSPHATE PLANT

NORTHBROOK, Ill., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- IMC-Agrico Company, a joint venture partnership between IMC Fertilizer Group, Inc. (NYSE: IFL) and Freeport-McMoRan Resource Partners, Limited Partnership (NYSE: FRP), announced today that it will resume concentrated phosphate production at its Taft, La., plant. The facility has been idled since early July.
"The decision to resume production is driven by IMC-Agrico's lower-than-normal inventory levels which have dropped below the industry average," said Wendell F. Bueche, president and chief executive officer of IFL. "Taft's output will support current demand as well as help to prepare the Company for the spring planting season. Projections indicate the nation's agricultural sector will require four percent more fertilizer in 1994."
Initially, the Taft plant will operate at approximately 75 percent of capacity. Adjustments to its operating rate will be made based on current and projected domestic and international demand for its fertilizer products.
The joint venture is managed by an affiliate of IMC Fertilizer.
