IMC FERTILIZER SELLS $160 MILLION 9-1/4 PERCENT SENIOR NOTES

 NORTHBROOK, Ill., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- IMC Fertilizer Group, Inc. (NYSE: IFL), announced the public offering of $160 million principal amount of 9-1/4 percent senior notes due 2000. The senior notes will be issued at par. The offering is expected to close on Oct. 13.
 The company will use the net proceeds from the senior note offering, together with the approximately $100 million net proceeds (assuming no exercise of the underwriters' over-allotment option) of its 3 million share common stock offering announced yesterday, to purchase $220 million principal amount of 11.25 percent notes of IMC Fertilizer, Inc., the company's principal operating subsidiary, for an aggregate of approximately $250 million.
 Lehman Brothers Inc. and Citicorp Securities, Inc., are the underwriters for the senior notes offering. Lehman Brothers is the managing underwriter for the common stock offering.
