IMAGERY DELIVERS ON PROMISE OF DESKTOP IMAGING
 BILLERICA, Mass., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Imagery Inc., a

subsidiary of Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: EK) (formerly the Desktop Document Imaging Group), today announced the shipment of Lotus Notes: Document Imaging (LN:DI), the image processing product it co-developed with Lotus Development Corporation (NASDAQ: LOTS). An add-on extension to Lotus Notes, LN:DI allows users to easily incorporate paper-based information into their Notes applications. It is priced at $295 per seat and is available now through Lotus sales channels.
The LN:DI shipment signals the beginning of a new era in image processing. Once confined only to expensive, mission-critical applications, robust imaging functionality is now available as an integrated and cost efficient component of desktop computing. For Imagery, it marks a major step in it's mission to make image processing a common function of desktop applications.
"The shipping of LN:DI marks the validation of the desktop imaging market," said Bruce Silver, director for BIS Strategic Decisions' Document and Image Management Strategies Group. "Imagery's technology has already received praise from companies seeking affordable imaging solutions which can be incorporated directly into existing applications on the desktop."
Imagery partnered with Lotus in 1991, announcing its desktop imaging strategy and intent to work with other major software, network and hardware vendors in the future. To date, Imagery has collaborated with two partners: Lotus and Novell. Imagery is presently working with Novell to extend the image-processing capability of NetWare 4.0.
"We are setting the standard for the next wave in workgroup computing by bringing imaging to the desktop at the unprecedented price point of $295 per seat," said Steve Conkling, president and CEO of Imagery, Inc. "We're excited about the power of LN:DI, the ease of integrating paper-based images into Notes and the benefits of improving the accessibility of information resources throughout an organization."
A Lotus Notes Companion product, LN:DI works with Lotus Notes Version 2.1 and will be upwardly compatible with future Lotus Notes releases. Images such as presentations, contracts and news articles can be stored outside of the Notes database in LN:DI's mass storage system, which efficiently handles large images, or can be embedded into the Notes database. Imaging software is stored on the Notes?erver and on each Notes client, with the server handling requests to the mass storage systems and the client handling manipulation. These images when combined with the inherent capabilities of Notes to share electronic information, allow paper-based documents to become just another data type within desktop computing.
Imagery, Inc. is a software company devoted to bringing imaging functionality to the desktop. Imagery partners with leading software and network vendors to develop imaging extensions to their existing products. The company is based in Billerica, Mass. and is a privately held, wholly-owned subsidiary of Eastman Kodak Company.
