 IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT SIGNS EXCLUSIVE MULTI-YEAR
DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT FOR THE ACCLAIMED CRITERION COLLECTION
CHATSWORTH, Calif., Nov. 11 -- Image Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: DISK) and the Voyager Company have signed a multi-year, exclusive laserdisc distribution agreement. Under the new pact, Image has obtained exclusive distribution rights for Voyager's popular, high quality Criterion Collection line of laserdisc programming and non exclusive worldwide distribution rights for Voyager's acclaimed non theatrical releases under the Voyager line. The agreement was announced today by Image Entertainment Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Martin W. Greenwald and Jonathan Turell, partner, The Voyager Company.
Effective immediately, Image will be solely responsible for replication, sales and distribution of the Voyager product lines, with marketing activities to be handled jointly with Voyager.
"Our operating philosophy has been to build our market share to become the most formidable company in the laserdisc business," commented Greenwald. "Our position as the Industry's largest laserdisc organization will allow us to maximize sales for both Criterion and Voyager product."
Turell stated, "We are delighted to sign with Image, a company with an excellent track record in laserdisc distribution. Because of Image's extensive relationships in the marketplace, we believe they will be able to realize the full potential of our titles."
Added Image Entertainment Senior Vice President Wendy Moss, "To consumers, the Criterion Collection is synonymous with important, high quality feature films. With our huge list of retail customers, we will be able to greatly expand the penetration of these sought-after releases. We also believe opportunity exists to open up new dealers who are not already carrying laserdiscs.
"The educational product available on the Voyager banner supports our commitment to this genre," continued Moss. "We are proud to be distributing these lines, and look forward to a long and successful affiliation."
The pioneers of feature film enhancement, Voyager is considered by many to be the best. By adding director's notes, restoring footage, producing video supplements and preserving original theatrical aspects ratios, Voyager has garnered numerous accolades for its outstanding Criterion Collection. Past releases have included "Blade Runner," "Boyz 'N the Hood," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Lawrence of Arabia." Upcoming titles include such critical favorites as "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and the director's cut of "The Man Who Fell To Earth," featuring commentary from Nicolas Roeg and David Bowie. Among the releases for 1993 are "Howards End," "The Player," and "Bram Stoker's Dracula," the Francis Ford Coppola directed gothic romance opening theatrically Nov. 13.
Well-received by both the academic community and the general public, the Voyager titles include four volumes of works from the Louvre; "For All Mankind," the award-winning documentary on America's missions to the moon; and the "Dream Machine" series embodying state-of-the-art computer animation.
The Voyager Company develops and publishes works of significant content for the home and educational markets. A wide selection of award-winning titles in the laserdisc and computer software formats has established Voyager's position in the forefront of the media publishing industry.
Image Entertainment, Inc. is the largest licensee and distributor of programming on laserdisc in the United States with an estimated 35 percent share of the domestic laserdisc market and the most extensive library of titles available in the industry.
