ILLINOIS CENTRAL AND M.S. CARRIERS ANNOUNCE INTERMODAL PARTNERSHIP
 CHICAGO, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Illinois Central Railroad and M.S. Carriers today announced the formation of a truck/rail partnership for the intermodal transportation of freight in the following primary markets: Chicago, East St. Louis, Memphis, Jackson and New Orleans.
 Illinois Central Railroad, the principal subsidiary of Illinois Central Corporation (NYSE: IC), operates a 2,700 mile freight railroad between Chicago and the Gulf of Mexico. IC is headquartered in Chicago, and has a large intermodal hub in Memphis, Tenn. IC offers the shortest and most direct route between Chicago and New Orleans and currently provides daily, first-evening intermodal service between its terminals in these two cities, for second-morning delivery.
 M.S. Carriers, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSCA) is among the 15 largest truckload carriers in the United States, serving the eastern two-thirds of the U.S. and the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, Canada, with interline service to Mexico. M.S. Carriers is headquartered in Memphis, Tenn.
 In announcing the partnership, IC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Edward L. Moyers commented, "In this alliance, we are drawing on the relative strengths of each company to produce a seamless, high- quality service for our customers.
 "This agreement will significantly contribute to one of Illinois Central's key objectives of intermodal market growth. Toward that same end, we are expanding intermodal facilities in Chicago and Memphis. Our Chicago intermodal facility, when it is completed in January, will be the most modern and one of the most easily accessible intermodal facilities in the area."
