ILFC ORDERS NEW ENGINES FROM PRATT & WHITNEY

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Aircraft lessor International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) has ordered 36 advanced technology engines from Pratt & Whitney valued at nearly $290 million. The engines will be used to power ILFC's new fleet of Airbus Industrie A300, A310, A330 and Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft.
ILFC has ordered 23 PW4000 series engines to power its new wide-body aircraft. The value of these engines, including spares, is about $203 million. Thirteen PW2000 series engines, including spares, were ordered to power ILFC's new 757 fleet. The value of the PW2000 order is approximately $86 million. Engine deliveries begin in 1996 and go through 1998.
Based in Los Angeles, Calif., ILFC currently has a fleet of 73 Pratt-powered aircraft in service or on firm order. "ILFC has been very successful in placing all of its aircraft in service. It's a tribute to their keen business sense," said Selwyn D. Berson, president of Pratt & Whitney's commercial engine business.
Since entering service in 1987, Pratt & Whitney's PW4000 engine family has become the best selling high-thrust powerplants in the industry. To date, more than 2,800 engines have been ordered by 62 customers worldwide.
In service since 1984, the PW2000 engine is the market leader in the 35,000 to 40,000 pound thrust class. In addition to the 757, it has been chosen to power the Ilyushin IL-96M and the U.S. Air Force C-17 transport.
Pratt & Whitney is an operating unit of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX) based in Hartford, Conn.
