 ILA ENDORSES BILL CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT
 LAKE TAHOE, Nev., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The International


Longshoremen's Association, AFL-CIO today announced that it is endorsing Democratic Governor Bill Clinton for president of the United States, according to an announcement by John Bowers, the union's president.
 President Bowers announced the endorsement to 300 delegates and friends attending the Second Biennial Convention of the Eightieth Convention of the South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District, ILA here in Lake Tahoe. "This morning the ILA's Executive Council, Atlantic Coast District and South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District Executive Boards unanimously endorsed Bill Clinton for president and Al Gore for vice president," said Bowers. "Governor Clinton supports the strikebreaker legislation which is very important to ILA members and to union members everywhere. We must commit ourselves to electing him. Our nation has suffered through 12 years of Republican leadership and it is now time to turn to the Democratic candidates who offer us vision and new hope for the future."
 The motion to endorse the Clinton-Gore ticket was made by Executive Vice President Al Cernadas and seconded by General Vice President Benny Holland. President Bowers' announcement to convention delegates was met by a loud standing ovation.
 THe ILA represents 85,000 workers at ports on the Atlantic and Gulf Coast, Great Lakes, major U.S. rivers, Puerto Rico and Eastern Canada.
