IHS GROUP ACQUIRES CAPS; FIFTH ACQUISITION OF 1993

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Information Handling Services Group Inc. today announced that its Information Handling Services Inc. (IHS) subsidiary has acquired the assets of Cahners Technical Information Service (CTIS), a division of Reed Publishing (USA) Inc., headquartered in Newton, Mass.
CTIS produces the Computer Aided Product Selection or "CAPS" databases of electronic components, including information on integrated circuits, semiconductors and passive devices.
Mike Timbers, president & chief executive officer of IHS Group, indicates that "IHS plans to build on the relative strengths of both companies' databases to provide electrical design information and to service engineers with an unparalleled source of parametric component data."
As a further expansion of its computer-based technical information services, IHS is also introducing a new family of software tools, CAPSCAD, which will enable engineering customers to fully integrate and exploit IHS databases within their preferred operating environments.
CAPSCAD will allow IHS subscribers to retrieve not only IHS information, but also internally generated data such as text and graphic documents, CAD drawings, test results and analyses, pricing and discount information -- all from a single search criteria. Essentially, IHS customers will be able to access all available information on a related topic, regardless of source, from within the software application of their choice. According to Timbers, "IHS plans to not only be the premier supplier of component information but also the leader in CAD and graphics interface software."
IHS Group is a leading provider of technical, regulatory, and health information, information management systems and services; with worldwide sales in excess of US$200 million. CTIS represents IHS Group's fifth acquisition of 1993 and follows those of National Standards Association (US), Hinton Information Services Pty. Ltd. (Australia), JAC Computer Services Ltd. (UK), and Logicraft Inc.(US).
