IDG ACQUIRES TAKE ONE PUBLICATION; ACQUISITION OF HOME ENTERTAINMENT PUBLICATION POSITIONS IDG AS LEADER IN CONSUMER ELECTRONICS MARKET

 BOSTON, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- International Data Group (IDG), the world's leading supplier of information on information technology, has acquired Take One, a leading home entertainment electronics publication based in Little Rock, Ark., according to IDG Chairman Patrick J. McGovern.
 Take One, the principal publication of Falcon Publications, will join with IDG's Connell Communications to help form the largest paid circulation consumer electronics publishing company in the United States.
 "With the acquisition of Take One, IDG has a dominant position in the consumer electronics publishing market," said McGovern. "IDG intends to reinforce this franchise by providing more technology information to the users of consumer electronics products," he said.
 "Entertainment and consumer electronics manufacturers are channeling more of their marketing resources into supporting their retailer network," said Jim Connell, CEO of Connell Communications. "With over 16,000 leading entertainment and electronics stores carrying our publications, we are able to deliver to the marketplace over eight million consumer impressions each month at the point of purchase."
 A rapidly-growing publication, Take One is distributed at video rental stores throughout the United States and has a monthly circulation of 1.4 million copies.
 Connell Communication's Video Event has a paid circulation of 1.3 million copies. Advertising in Video Event will be sold as a package with Take One, offering advertisers a 2.7 million paid circulation reach the $12 billion-a-year video rental and purchase market. Connell also publishes Laser Event, the leading publication for laser disc users, with a paid circulation of 160,000 a month. In addition, the company publishes CD Review, the leading magazine for users of the audio compact disc. CD Review has a paid circulation of 110,000 copies per month.
 In addition to this acquisition, IDG has just announced the launch of Desktop Video World, a bimonthly magazine for desktop computer users, using digital video in all forms of presentations and communications. IDG also has the leading video game magazine, GamePro, with 2.5 million readers each month."
