IDB to allocate $50mln to development of drinking water supply in Batken and Talas regions.
Deputy Prime Minister Zamirbek Askarov met with the Director of the Regional Representative Office of the Islamic Development Bank Group, Hisham Maarouf, said the government on November 24.
The parties discussed issues related to the allocated funds for the development of the rural sector of drinking water supply in Batken and Talas regions.
Hisham Maarouf noted the intensification of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the Islamic Development Bank over the past 6 months.
Negotiations were held between the official delegation of Kyrgyzstan and representatives of the Islamic Development Bank for a loan of $20 million in accordance with the Strategy for the Development of Drinking Water Supply and Water Disposal of Settlements on November 23.
Following the previous negotiations, the Saudi Development Fund provided Kyrgyzstan with an additional $30 million and reduced the originally proposed interest rate from 1% to 0.75%. The loan will be granted for 30 years with a grace period of 10 years.
These financial resources in the amount of $50 million under the Concept approved by the above-mentioned financial institutions will be used to develop drinking water supply in 91 villages in Batken and Talas regions. These projects will be implemented over the next 4-5 years.
A protocol of negotiations between the State Agency of Architecture, Construction and Housing and Communal Services and the Islamic Development Bank for the project "Improving Rural Water Supply and Sanitation in Batken and Talas Regions" was signed on November 23.
