IDB COMMUNICATIONS PROVIDES TELEPHONE SERVICE TO U.S. MILITARY STATIONED IN SOMALIA

NEW YORK, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- IDB Communications Group Inc. (NASDAQ: IDBX) announced today that IDB WORLDCOM, the company's private line and international long distance telephone unit, is providing telephone service to the U.S. military and support staff stationed in Somalia, enabling personnel to call anywhere in the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. The Phone Home service is provided via IDB WORLDCOM-owned satellite and digital fiber optic cable facilities.
"The existing communications infrastructure in Somalia prohibits quality and reliable means of sending and receiving information to the U.S.," said Steve Carroll, president of IDB WORLDCOM. "By utilizing the facilities and expertise of IDB WORLDCOM we are able to make that long awaited call home just a little easier."
Carroll continued, "We are thrilled to be offering this type of service to our troops stationed in Somalia. Being able to have a conversation with your friends, family or colleagues from such a remote part of the world is sure to increase morale, especially with the holidays around the corner."
Telephone calls, which can be charged collect or to a major credit card, are sent via satellite from Somalia and received in New York where they are switched automatically to the customer's home or office. IDB WORLDCOM will continue its communication support until U.S. forces arrive back to the United States.
Operating a diverse global network of fiber optic submarine cable and satellite transmission services, IDB WORLDCOM provides numerous routing options to virtually every region in the world.
IDB Communications Group Inc. is a global telecommunications company that operates a domestic and international communications network providing its customers with radio and television transmission services, international private line and long distance telephone services, facsimile and data connections, mobile satellite communications capabilities and the design and integration of satellite networks worldwide.
