IDB COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES $2-MILLION SYSTEMS CONTRACT WITH PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

 LOS ANGELES, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- IDB Communications Group Inc. (NASDAQ: IDBX) today announced that its IDB SYSTEMS unit has been awarded a $2-million contract by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPT) of the People's Republic of China to provide two C-Band, transportable earth stations.
 "These new earth stations have been custom designed for MPT and are capable of transmitting and receiving television or telephone signals," stated Edward R. Cheramy, IDB president. "Initially, the Chinese will use these earth stations to broadcast the Asian Games in the Spring of 1993. After the Games, the 'uplinks' will be used for various special events, disaster recovery operations and temporary services. Both transportable earth stations are capable of operating on the Intelsat satellite system as well as Chinese domestic satellites.
 "This contract marks the continued growth of IDB SYSTEMS," continued Cheramy. "In just four years, this service unit has achieved $20 million in annualized revenues through the design, installation and integration of 'turn key' transmission facilities and communications networks throughout the world. IDB SYSTEMS customers include ChileSat, Singapore Telecom, European Broadcast Union, ONPTZ-Zaire and many other telecommunications authorities, government agencies, broadcasters, corporations and educational institutions worldwide."
