IDB ANNOUNCES CONTRACT WITH SATELLITE INFORMATION SERVICES TO DISTRIBUTE HORSE RACING FROM THE UNITED KINGDOM

LOS ANGELES, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- IDB Communications Group Inc. (NASDAQ: IDBX) announced that IDB BROADCAST, its international and domestic radio and television transmission services unit, has signed an agreement with a joint venture between Satellite Information Services (SIS) and the Meadowlands Race Track, whereby IDB will provide 150 hours of satellite transmission time to SIS for distribution of horse races from the United Kingdom to the United States.
The transmission will originate at various tracks in the United Kingdom and will be transmitted via SIS uplinks in London to IDB's Atlantic Express Service on Intelsat 332.5, and then downlinked at IDB's Staten Island, N.Y. Teleport. The signal will then be retransmitted via the Galaxy 2 satellite to various race tracks in the United States, including The Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J., Arlington Park in Chicago and Philadelphia Park in Philadelphia.
The service began at the start of the "Best of British Racing" Season on April 29, and will continue through the final race on Nov. 6, 1993. Such featured races include the Epsom Derby, the Coronation Cup, the Coral Eclipse Stakes, the Sussex Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
SIS is the sole provider of simulcasts to betting shops in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, and also delivers signals to Europe, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean. SIS will produce the satellite show from its studios in London, featuring information and commentary on each race.
IDB previously announced, on March 12, 1993, an historic simulcast service agreement with three Ohio-based thoroughbred race tracks, to provide compression transmission services via the Galaxy 7 satellite system.
"IDB is pleased to be a part of this unique international simulcasting trial. We hope the success of these transmissions will lead to future international simulcasting projects," said Tom Cameron, account manager of IDB BROADCAST.
