IDB AND AZERBAIJAN PTT SIGN KEY AGREEMENTS FOR PROVISION OF SWITCHED VOICE AND PRIVATE LINE SERVICE

ROCKVILLE, Md., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- IDB Communications Group Inc. (NASDAQ: IDBX), a leading supplier of specialized telecommunications services,

announced that the company was issued five-year Operating Agreements for the provision of switched voice and private line services between Azerbaijan and the United States by Aztelecom and Teleradio, operating entities of the Azerbaijan PTT.
The Agreements, signed Dec. 21, 1992, call upon IDB to install a 7.2-meter satellite earth station in Baku and interconnect to Aztelecom's existing DMS100/200 switch. A minimum of 15 switched voice channels will be established as a first step with IDB interconnecting traffic to its New York switch facilities. The earth station shall be located at the new telecommunications tower in Baku which will become the Network Collection Point (NCP) for private-line customers in the Baku region. Connectivity between the NCP and customer locations will be provided by digital microwave systems as well as four-wire copper facilities. The satellite earth station constructed by IDB will address Statsionar 11 (11 Degrees West) for direct reception in New York at IDB's Staten Island Teleport.
In addition, for applications beyond the reach of microwave connectivity, IDB shall provide customers with dedicated, on-premise earth stations addressing Statsionar 11 or Statsionar 5, which would be received at IDB's gateway earth station facility or complex in London.
The overall agreement between IDB and the Azerbaijan PTT was signed by Edward R. Cheramy, president of IDB and Sirus H. Abasbeyli, minister of communications. At the same time, a companion agreement for provision of private line services was signed by Vagif Musayev, general director of Teleradio, the Radio and TV Association of the Azerbaijan PTT; and another companion agreement for provision of switched voice services was signed by Rafik Aliyev, director of Aztelecom. Signing these agreements for IDB was Bill Wisniewski, vice president of Business Development.
Cheramy remarked, "These ground-breaking agreements offer U.S. oil and energy companies a one-stop shop for telecommunications solutions from the oil fields of Azerbaijan."
IDB Communications operates a domestic and international communications network which provides its customers with radio and television transmission services, international private line telephone, facsimile and data connections, mobile satellite communications capabilities and international public switched long distance telephone services.
