ICTA launches anti-beggary campaign, sets up cell at DC office.
ISLAMABAD -- Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) has launched an 'Anti Beggary Campaign' against the beggars who have flocked various capital markets and formed a cell at Deputy Commissioner office, said an official on Tuesday.
Assistant Commissioner ICTA, Rabia Aurangzeb told that operation was launched following hundreds of complaints by the residents of the capital.
"Various markets of the capital have been invaded by hundreds of beggars who have occupied almost all the main markets as Eid approaches" she said.
A large number of beggars have arrived from other cities and villages and the number is growing ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr adding a common sight on city roads nowadays is begging women carrying their naked sleeping children.
She said that a large number of eunuchs , children, women beggars invaded markets including F-10, F-11 Marakaz and other main markets of the capital every year in Ramazan.
"The number of beggars always witness an increase ahead of Eid and many of them are professionals, come from far-flung areas, to try their luck in the few days before the important event" she added.
