ICELANDIC CARRIER SELECTS GRANDSLAM FOR DSL.
The company will initially deploy Paradyne's Hotwire GranDSLAM next-generation DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexer) in eight central offices (COs) in Reykjavik and several neighboring towns, with plans to install DSLAMs in up to 19 COs by early this year.
Islandssimi will use the GranDSLAM's multiple services, technologies and transports to offer a range of services, including E1 and fractional E1 data speeds for large businesses and symmetric DSL with speeds up to 4 Mbps for bundled lines for small to medium-sized businesses. The company will offer telecommuters and residential users asymmetric DSL (ADSL) services at speeds of 512 Kbps to 6 Mbps.
Islandssimi will also offer Frame Relay over DSL (FRoDSL) services for those companies that require Service Level Agreement (SLA) validation for mission-critical network operation. Paradyne offers the industry's only solution to enable true end-to-end service-level management (SLM) for FRoDSL.
"We chose Paradyne because the GranDSLAM has the highest degree of flexibility in the industry," said Orn Orrasson, network vice president for Islandssimi. "Paradyne's open approach to network management also fits Islandssimi well because of our activity in software development for billing and customer care systems. We plan to integrate Paradyne's OpenLane(R) network management system into our cWell online customer care solution. The local loop has been open for competition since Oct. 1 and shared access will be available soon making Iceland an exciting marketplace for competitive ADSL services."
