ICA AWARDED ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR TUXPAN THERMOELECTRIC PLANT, NEW CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR TEMASCAL HYDROELECTRIC PLANT

 MEXICO CITY, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Empresas ICA Sociedad Controladora, S.A. de C.V. (NYSE: ICA), Mexico's largest construction company, today announced that the Comision Federal de Electricidad (Federal Power Commission) has awarded ICA additional construction contracts for Units 5 and 6 of the Tuxpan thermoelectric plant in the state of Veracruz, as well as a construction contract for the expansion of the Temascal hydroelectric plant in the state of Oaxaca.
 At present, ICA is constructing Units 3 and 4 of the Tuxpan thermoelectric plant and expects construction to be completed in mid 1994. The plant is to be constructed in a seaport, located in Tuxpan, Veracruz, and will generate 700 MW of power. Unit 5 will be constructed over the next 35 months, Unit 6 in a period of 39 months. The estimated value of the project is US$640 million.
 ICA will be responsible for 22 percent of the project including the civil and electromechanic construction. The project will be completed by a consortium of companies including GEC ALSTHOM, who will be responsible for design, manufacturing and equipment procurement, and TURALMEX to partially manufacture turboengines.
 Construction of the Temascal hydroelectric plant, located in Temascal, Oaxaca, includes two additional units which will each generate 100 MW of power. The first unit is expected to be completed within a period of 37 months, the second unit within 40 months. The estimated value of the project is US$140 million.
 ICA will be responsible for 37 percent of the Temascal plant project relating to civil and electromechanic construction and will work in association with three French companies to complete the project. CEGELEC will install the instrumentation and control systems, NEYRPIC will manufacture turbines and flood gates, and ALSTHOM JEUMONT will be responsible for the manufacture of electric generators.
