IBM enters agreement to acquire BLADE Network Technologies.

Technology company IBM (NYSE:IBM) announced on Monday That it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire data centre switching company BLADE Network Technologies (BLADE)

The financial terms of the acquisition were not revealed.

According to the company, IBM and BLADE have worked together since 2002, resulting in thousands of joint clients. As a result, over 50% of IBM System x BladeCenters currently attach to or use BLADE products.

The acquisition is expected to help IBM drive innovation at the systems networking level to enable clients to accelerate the delivery of key information from system to system, while reducing data centre costs.

BLADE will help IBM better integrate networks with its systems, optimising them for workloads that require high-speed and low-latency performance, such as cloud computing and business analytics. It will also increase IBMa[euro](tm)s System Networking development, sales, support, skills and awareness and help the company build smarter systems that are optimised for client requirements, IBM said.

The acquisition is anticipated to close in Q4 2010, subject to customary closing conditions.
