Information technology company IBM (NYSE:IBM) and ZAO Medit Profi, a provider of solutions for TV production and broadcasting based on open computing technologies, announced on Friday (7 September) that the companies have successfully completed a newsroom modernisation project at TV Channel 5 in St Petersburg, Russia.

Under the project the companies reportedly streamlined Channel 5's programme creation and delivery and built a digital archive of 68 years of broadcasting. Channel 5 has reportedly improved newsroom planning and coordination, reduced costs, and enabled more powerful live broadcasts.

Under the project, ZAO Medit Profi, an IBM business partner based in Moscow, provided VIDI production and transmission software applications. IBM provided a mixture of hardware, software and storage technology solutions.

Founded on the Linux operating system, Channel 5's solution includes IBM WebSphere Portal Enable, IBM System Storage, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended Edition, and IBM System x servers.
