IBM TO EXCEED 1992 WORK FORCE REDUCTION GOAL

IBM TO EXCEED 1992 WORK FORCE REDUCTION GOAL
 ARMONK, N.Y., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- International Business

Machines Corporation (NYSE: IBM) today announced that its voluntary work force reduction programs have been more successful than anticipated. IBM said it now expects to reduce its worldwide work force by at least 32,000 employees this year rather than the 20,000 previously expected. The costs of these additional departures will be approximately $1.2 billion. Ongoing savings will recoup these costs over the next year and a half.
