IBM SIMPLIFIES WINDOWS 2000 WITH THINKPAD & NETVISTA COMPUTERS.
The systems ship "ready-to-use" and add "smart" technologies that help protect data, speed processing, and cut the hassle out of maintaining systems - allowing businesses to get the most out of the latest Microsoft operating system.
"Computing has become less about the device and more about the task. Both IBM and Microsoft realize our customers don't want to worry about the computer or operating system but rather, what they're trying to do with it," said Ralph Martino, vice president of marketing and strategy, IBM Personal Systems Group. "Together, we're continuing to simplify the computing experience -- pre-configuring systems that are ready to use out of the box, and adding 'intelligence' that lets our customers focus on their business."
"Windows 2000 Professional is positively impacting how businesses approach computing and allowing them to seize the opportunity that the Internet presents. Microsoft is thrilled to be working with IBM on solutions that simplify the computing experience and help businesses get ahead in the rapidly expanding e-business world," said Tod Nielsen, vice president, platform group at Microsoft. "The powerful combination of Windows 2000 running on IBM ThinkPad, NetVista and IntelliStation computers along with IBM's enterprise expertise will help both traditional bricks and mortar and emerging e-businesses get to the Internet quickly."

First Windows Powered Appliance Server for Web Hosting
A new Internet appliance utilizing an operating system based on Windows 2000 technologies for Web hosting and serving, the IBM Netfinity A100 features Web accelerating software developed by IBM Research that takes advantage of Windows 2000, boosting Web hosting performance up to 70 percent versus standard Web serving appliances.
The A100 is the first product in IBM's new A-Series family of appliance products, a line of pre-packaged, easy-to-use solution server appliances for enterprises, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Application Service Providers (ASPs).
The advances in integration, condensed design, and single purpose focus give Netfinity A100 customers an affordable way to achieve "unpacking-to-Web-hosting" operation -- within just a few minutes - while reducing costs up to 30 percent. This is a significant reduction from the typical two-and-a-half hour installation process and cost associated with non-integrated solutions.
