IBM SELECTS RACOTEK DATA/VOICE COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES TO INTERFACE WITH TOUCHMOBILE PRODUCT

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Racotek, Inc., a Minneapolis- based wireless mobile data/voice communication services company, today announced that IBM has selected RacoNet(TM) as one of the metropolitan wireless communication services to interface with IBM's new TouchMobile(TM) system.
TouchMobile is a rugged, wireless device that fits in one hand and enables mobile workers to electronically collect and receive data in the field. TouchMobile electronically captures information at any location including a customer's doorstep, loading dock or warehouse. IBM's TouchMobile provides near real-time information access, enhancing the speed and integrity of information throughout organizations.
Companies can utilize hand-held TouchMobile technology as part of their field automation systems. The data can move from the company's base via RacoNet, a wireless data/voice communication service. Once information is delivered via RacoNet, the IBM TouchMobile system presents it to mobile workers on their TouchMobile screens.
"IBM provides a light, yet durable computer that can withstand the rigors of the road," said Richard Cortese, president and chief executive officer of RacoTek. "RacoNet services provide the wireless delivery to ensure employees will get the message when their base is attempting to communicate with them and vice-versa."
RacoNet utilizes existing trunked radio systems established in more than 2,000 metropolitan areas. Racotek adapts corporate information systems to communicate data and voice information to and from mobile computers via wireless systems that exist in virtually every metropolitan area in the United States. Currently, RacoNet customers have the option of using Motorola's or E.F. Johnson's trunked radio infrastructure for mobile data/voice communication with metropolitan areas.
