 IBM REDUCES PRICES UP TO 44 PERCENT ON CURRENT PORTABLE PCS
 SOMERS, N.Y., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- On the day it introduced its ThinkPad(A) portable computer brand, the IBM(A) Personal Computer Company also lowered list prices on several currently available portables.
 The company made its most dramatic price cut -- 44 percent -- on the PS/2 CL57 SX portable with active matrix, thin-film transistor (TFT) color screen. At $2,995, the 80386SX-based system now is one of the lowest-priced Active Matrix TFT color portables on the market.
 The company also announced price actions on the following machines: The IBM N51 SX, an 80386SX-based notebook computer, now lists at $1,425, reflecting a 17-percent price reduction; the IBM N51 SLC(A), an 80386SLC-based notebook, lists at $1,960, reflecting a 14-percent price drop.
 The 80-megabyte (MB) version of IBM's high-performance N45 SL notebook computer has been reduced 11 percent to $2,045, while the 120-MB version of the system has been reduced 10 percent to $2,245.
