IBM MICROELECTRONICS DIVISION LICENSES SOUND BLASTER COMPATIBILITY FROM CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY

 SINGAPORE, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Creative Technology Ltd. (NASDAQ-NMS: CREAf) today announced that it has licensed Sound Blaster(TM) compatibility to International Business Machines Corp. Microelectronics Division. In addition, the two companies have agreed to proceed with negotiating for further exchange of technology between Creative Technology and IBM.
 As the industry standard for high-quality audio, Sound Blaster compatibility is required for virtually all PC sound systems and sound-enhanced software.
 "IBM is currently one of Creative's major OEM customers of Sound Blaster 16 solutions," said K.S. Chay, president and chief operating officer of Creative Technology. "We are very pleased to see this further recognition of Sound Blaster as the standard in both the home and multimedia markets by IBM Microelectronics Division. This alliance provides us with the opportunity to extend our existing relationship with IBM in the future."
 According to Rich Sorkin, director of audio products for Creative Labs, Creative Technology's U.S. subsidiary: "This license to IBM is the next major step in a series of actions Creative is taking to protect, maintain and enhance the Sound Blaster standard and our intellectual property rights. The agreement also represents a continuation of Creative's strategy to bring affordable audio solutions to the OEM customer."
