IBM INTRODUCES THREE NEW MODELS OF ITS PS/1 LINE

SOMERS, N.Y., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The IBM Personal Computer Company today announced the expansion of its Personal System/1(A) line with the addition of three new models.
There will be one new model for each of the company's three lines of PS/1 computers: the PS/1 Essential line, aimed at the small business market; the PS/1 Expert line, for the more advanced buyer who may already own a PC; and the PS/1 Consultant line, for those who do business or school work at home.
The new desktop systems, called the Model 78, are powered by a 486DX-33 megahertz (MHz) microprocessor and come standard with eight megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM) and a 211 MB hard drive. As with all PS/1 models, the new systems come with everything a user needs to get started: the system unit, SVGA color Photo Graphic(A) monitor, IBM Selectric Touch(A) keyboard, mouse and modem. They also come pre-loaded with IBM DOS 5.0, Microsoft Windows(B) 3.1, Microsoft Works(B) for Windows, PRODIGY(A) and Promenade(A). Each purchaser of a Model 78 receives additional software designed to meet the needs of that user. The PS/1 Essential model includes QuickBooks, QuickPay and Express Publisher; the PS/1 Expert line includes Address Book Plus, Calendar Creator Plus and Text Appeal; and the PS/1 Consultant line includes Quicken for Windows and The New Print Shop.
The new models are available nationwide at selected retail channels.
