IBM EXPANDS SUCCESSFUL PS/VALUEPOINT LINE

 SOMERS, N.Y., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The IBM Personal Computer Company today announced the expansion of the Personal System/ ValuePoint(See Note A) line -- upgrading the hard drive on the current entry level OS/2(See Note A) based offering for the same competitive price, and providing customers with a choice of operating systems.
 The OS/2 based 425SX PS/ValuePoint, with 8 megabytes (MB) random access memory (RAM), is being offered with a new, larger hard drive of 120 MB, up from 80 MB.
 Also being announced are five new models of the PS/ValuePoint. These systems come standard with 4 MB RAM, are preloaded with IBM DOS 5.1 and Microsoft Windows(See Note B) 3.1.
 Through Direct Response Marketing (DRM), IBM's toll free number for ordering, customers can purchase new models, as well as graphics accelerated versions offering up to five times current graphics performance.

 The new PS/ValuePoint 425SX systems feature the 486SX-25 megahertz (MHz) microprocessor with 120 MB and 170 MB hard drive models. The new 433DX systems are based on the 486DX-33 MHz microprocessor, with 120 MB and 212 MB hard drive models. The new 466DX2 has a clock-doubling 33/66 MHz 486DX2 microprocessor with a 212 MB hard drive.
 All PS/ValuePoints feature five expansion slots and five storage bays for optimal expandability and upgradability.
 PS/ValuePoint is available via DRM, IBM's toll-free direct response ordering, 1-800-IBM-2YOU (1-800-426-2968). IBM will configure and ship PS/ValuePoint systems and monitors, and other peripherals and options, directly to customers. PS/ValuePoint will also be sold through authorized resellers.
 All PS/ValuePoint models come with HelpWare(See Note A), IBM's comprehensive service and support offerings. The HelpWare program for PS/ValuePoint includes round-the-clock, seven-days-a-week set up, usage and service assistance; via phone, bulletin board or automated fax, and next day on-site service during warranty.
 HelpWare also includes IBM's 30-day money back guarantee and IBM leasing; as well as HelpLearn(See Note A) -- more than 50 Licensed Education Centers across the country for PC software and hardware education; and a host of other HelpWare programs.  IBM ANNOUNCES COMPETITIVE PRICES FOR NEW PS/VALUEPOINT MODELS
 The IBM Personal Computer Company today announced five new models to the Personal Systems/ValuePoint line of products as well as an upgrade to a current model.
 New Models and prices:
 The five new models announced today come standard with 4 megabytes (MB) random access memory (RAM) and are preloaded with DOS 5.1 and Windows(See Note B) 3.1.
 PS/ValuePoint 425SX features the 486SX-25 megahertz (MHz) microprocessor, 120 MB and 170 MB hard drive and PS/ValuePoint 6312 Super Video Graphics Array (SVGA) color display and starts at $1,629. Same model with a graphics accelerator card starts at $1,839.
 PS/ValuePoint 433DX is based on the 33MHz 486DX microprocessor, with 120 MB or 212 MB hard drive, and PS/ValuePoint 6312 SVGA color display starting at $1,999. Same model with graphics accelerator starts at $2,199.
 The hard drive in the current OS/2(See Note A) based 425SX has been upgraded to 120 MB from 80 MB. This system, which includes a PS/ValuePoint 6312 SVGA color display, will sell for the same price as the previous offering, $1,629.
 All PS/ValuePoint systems come with HelpWare*, which includes round- the-clock, seven-days-a-week 800 number start-up and technical support, 24-hour-a-day bulletin board and fax support, next day on-site service during warranty, a 30-day money back guarantee, IBM leasing and additional services and support.
