 IBM ENHANCES ITS IMAGING SYSTEM FOR MEDICAL RECORDS
 WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., MARCH 10 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM Corp. (NYSE: IBM)

today announced an enhanced version of its Medical Records Plus/400, a medical records imaging system which makes it easier to route patient charts within a hospital or clinic, offers more choices in viewing records and provides greater security.
 Designed to meet the needs of physicians, administrators and medical records personnel, IBM Medical Records Plus/400 Version 2, available immediately, reduces paper storage from medical records departments, business and personnel offices. The system increases productivity by storing records electronically and allows for "concurrent" viewing of a patient's records so that two or more people can view the same record.
 Medical Records Plus/400 which includes software and hardware for the capture, optical storage and retrieval of medical and other records, runs on IBM's industry-leading Application System/400(See Note) (AS/400)(See Note).
 According to David Rummler, image consultant for IBM Health Industry Marketing, "We've expanded the use of image technology beyond the walls of the medical records department. We responded to the input of medical personnel to add more functions so that physicians and administrators could take full advantage of its efficiency. Medical Records Plus/400 Version 2 is an enterprise-wide solution to the document management challenge."
 Proven Gains in Productivity.
 Barbara Witt, medical records director, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, Newark, N.Y. has been using IBM Medical RecordsPlus/400 since October, 1990.
 "In today's environment, a hospital needs to be able to justify the costs and quantify potential returns. Although we had no previous experience with imaging systems, we found Medical Records Plus/400 to be versatile and cost-effective. We were finally able to get a handle on our mountains of paperwork. It was a relief to provide fast access to charts to everyone who needs them. The system lets us work smarter, more efficiently and enhance quality," she said.
 Range of Features.
 Key features of Medical Records Plus/400 Version 2 include:
 -- Workflow management: allows records to be routed to various departments for concurrent viewing and faster chart completion;
 -- User profiling: lets users tailor the selection and sequence of documents; for example, a specialist can request which sections of a patient's record she'd like to see first;
 -- "Fastpath" entry keys: saves time by letting users go directly to the desired documents;
 -- Presentation options: lets patient records be retrieved and presented as a set of individual "encounters", or as a unit record combining all patient information;
 -- Security: classifies and restricts access to patient charts to authorized users;
 -- Integration: allows customization and integration with other hospital systems such as lab, radiology, and HIS; and
 -- Indexing: provides flexibility in storing and retrieving patient record information with 18 indexes.
 Medical Records Plus/400 Version 2 operates on the AS/400(See Note) family of processors which allows users to move to larger processors and add additional workstations as their needs grow. For more information, contact David Rummler, 404-238-2441.
