IBM CUTS PRICES UP TO 20 PERCENT ON

 SOMERS N.Y., March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- In a sweeping response to competition, the IBM PC Company North America today announced it will cut prices up to 20 percent on selected models of the Personal System/ValuePoint(A), the Personal System/2(A) and monitors.
 "As previously stated, we will remain competitive by responding quickly to the industry as we have today," said Michael R. Coleman vice president, marketing and brand management, IBM PC Company, North America. "We will continue to increase the value/price index to demonstrate to our customers our commitment to remain the industry leader."
 For PS/ValuePoint, price cuts range up to 12 percent. Leading the value/price index for this line is the PS/ValuePoint 486DX2 with a clock-doubling 33/66 megahertz (MHz) 486 microprocessor, 4 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM), 212 MB hard drive and a 6314 Super Video Graphics Array monitor, now selling for $2539.
 For PS/2, including the Ultimedia(A) series, suggested list price cuts range from 10 to 18 percent.
 Today's price cuts on selected PS/2 and PS/ValuePoint monitors range from 11 to 20 percent. For example, an IBM PS/2 8514 extended graphics array color monitor now sells for $749.
 In addition, the IBM PC Company, North America reduced the price of the 16/4 MBPS (megabytes per second) ISA (industry standard architecture) token ring cards up to 8 percent.
 All PS/ValuePoint, PS/2 and monitors come with Helpware(A), which includes set up, usage and service assistance 24-hours-a-day, seven- days-a-week via phone, bulletin board or automated fax, on-site service during warranty, a 30-day money back guarantee, IBM leasing and additional services and support.
 Prices announced today for PS/ValuePoint systems and monitors are available through IBM's Direct Response Marketing, (800) IBM-2YOU. Reseller prices may vary.
