IBM ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR TIS SOFTWARE TOOLS STANDARDS INTERFACES

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- At a joint press conference held today at the Software Development '93 conference, IBM (NYSE: IBM) Personal Software Products announced its charter membership in the Tools Interface Standards (TIS) committee, an industry group that will work together to define specifications that enable vendors to enhance the interoperability and portability of 32-bit development tools and to improve the economics of developing 32-bit applications.
IBM is pleased to join TIS," said John Soyring, director of software development programs, IBM Personal Software Products. "Working as part of the TIS committee is consistent with our goals to implement standards where they exist, and work with the industry to define new standards where they do not yet exist. One of the goals of the software development community is to improve productivity. These TIS specifications should contribute to developers achieving that goal."
The group of vendors, including Borland, IBM, Intel, Lotus, Metaware, Microsoft, SCO and WATCOM, will work to define a set of tool interface specifications for 32-bit operating systems and provide an open forum to continue to enhance and expand the set of standards for software development tools.
"We look forward to working with the other vendors on the TIS committee," said Mr. Soyring. "The results of this joint effort should be beneficial to the industry as a whole as well as to IBM."
